Concert de Noël – Christmas Concert

Aujourd’hui, les presque 300 élèves de l’école des Carrières à Soignies ont chanté lors de leur concert de Noël. Que du bonheur! Vous pouvez visionner les photos en cliquant dessus.
Les bénéfices du marché de Noël seront destinés à Amani. Nous devrions connaître les résultats finaux demain! Un tout grand merci à tous les élèves et instituteurs de mon ancienne école!

Today, almost 300 children of my old school have participated in their Christmas concert. Amazing! You can view the pictures below by simply clicking on them.
All benefits of the Christmas market will go to Amani. We will know the final results tomorrow! A big thank you to all pupils and teachers at my old school!

Vandaag hebben de bijna 300 leerlingen van mijn oude school hun Kerstconcert gezongen. Zalig! Je kan de foto’s hieronder bekijken door er eenvoudig op te klikken.
Alle opbrengsten van de Kerstmarkt gaan naar Amani. Morgen weten we het eindresultaat! Hartelijk dank aan alle leerlingen en leraars van mijn oude school!

Concert de Noël au profit d’Amani!

L’école des Carrières à Soignies, mon ancienne école, organise comme chaque année son concert de Noël, ce jeudi 18 décembre dans la grande salle de l’école. Les classes primaires présenteront différents chants qui nous plongeront dans la magie de la fête de Noël. Deux présentations sont prévues: 14h et 16h.
Lors de cet évènement, il y aura également un petit marché de Noël où vous pourrez acheter différentes réalisations de Noël élaborées par les enfants ainsi que différents produits (cougnolles, galettes, truffes, brochettes de bonbons, cacao et vin chauds,…) à emporter ou à déguster sur place.
Tous les bénéfices seront versés intégralement à Amani! Merci!!!

This week, Thursday December 18, my old school organises its yearly Christmas concert and Christmas market in Soignies. All profits will be donated to Amani, the charity we support. Thank you!!!

Deze week, op donderdag 18 december, organiseert mijn oude school hun jaarlijkse Kerstconcert en -markt te Soignies (Zinnik). Alle winst zal integraal overgemaakt worden aan Amani, ons goede doel. Dank je!!!

My training

The main purpose of my training is to maintain my physical condition. Although it will not guarantee that I will make it to the top (altitude sickness is the biggest risk, and you can’t train for it), it will help me to recover faster during the climb. I am running at least 3 times a week a minimum of 3 km and will soon bring this up to 5 km. My father is at 2,5 km without being exhausted During the Christmas holidays, we are planning a challenging walk to train some other muscles we will need. I need to go back to my books now!

The Rongai Route

En cliquant sur la photo ci-dessus, vous obtiendrez une vue détaillée du chemin que nous emprunterons lors de l’ascension. Nous partirons du côté Nord (Rongai) et descendrons via le côté Sud (Marangu).

Via de foto hierboven, vind je een gedetailleerd zicht op de route die we zullen volgen tijdens de klim. We zullen vertrekken uit het Noorden (Rongai) en afdalen via het Zuiden (Marangu).

Less than 3 months to go…

We are getting all excited… in less than 3 months from now, we will be on our way to the summit of Africa! The preparations are going well, our equipment is almost complete. We are preparing some more activities to raise funds for our charity, I’ll tell you more about these soon. But first I need to focus on my exams.  Talk to you soon!

Nous sommes de plus en plus excités… dans moins de 3 mois, nous serons en route vers le sommet de l’Afrique! Les préparations se passent plutôt bien, notre équipement est presque complet. Nous préparons quelques activités pour la bonne cause que nous soutenons, je vous tiendrai au courant via mon blog. Mais d’abord, je dois me concentrer sur mes examens. A très bientôt!

We worden meer en meer opgewonden… in minder dan 3 maanden zullen we op weg zijn naar het dak van Afrika! De voorbereidingen verlopen goed, onze uitrusting is bijna compleet. We bereiden nog enkele aktiviteiten voor om extra fondsen te werven voor ons goede doel, ik hou jullie op de hoogte. Maar eerst moet ik mij concentreren op mijn examens. Tot zeer binnenkort!

Generator arrived at Amani!

Hi Bart and Alexandre,

Greetings from all of us at Amani. I hope this finds you both well. Just
wanted to let you know that after months in transit, the generator has
finally arrived at Amani! It came in a white van this afternoon and it
took about 6 guys to unload. We started it up and tested it out. It
hummed nicely, like it was supposed to. Now, we’re having the wheels put
on it.

The construction for the shed where the generator will be placed is just
starting. We had the plans drawn up a couple weeks ago and building will
begin this week. I’ll send photos as things progress.

Attached you’ll find a snapshot of the generator just after it was
unloaded in Amani’s storeroom.

Climb operator selection

After several months of research and discussions, we have finally choosen the operator who will organise our climb. Africa Travel Resource is a well-established organisation, based in the UK, with strong ties to the African Walking Company, a Tanzanian-based Kilimanjaro specialist.

We have selected ATR for multiple reasons:
- They are true Kilimanjaro specialists, respecting the highest safety standards
- They have an excellent track record in taking people to the top
- They operate on the “Rongai”-route, a high-quality, low-traffic route with good chances of success
- They support our Amani-charity
- They treat their porters very well
- They were very helpfull with all aspects of the trip. Thank you Tracey!

Après plusieurs mois de recherches et de discussions, nous avons choisi l’opérateur qui organisera notre expédition. Africa Travel Resource est une organisation bien réputée, basée en Angleterre, avec une collaboration étroite avec Africa Walking Company, un spécialiste du Kilimanjaro, basé en Tanzanie.

Nous avons opté pour ATR pour des raisons multiples:
- ils sont des spécialistes du Kilimanjaro, respectant les normes de sécurité les plus élevés
- ils ont un taux de réussite élevé
- ils opèrent sur la route Rongai, une route de qualité, peu fréquentée avec de bonnes chances de réussite
- ils soutiennent notre oeuvre caritative
- ils sont respectueux envers leurs porteurs

Na verschillende maanden van opzoekingen en gesprekken, hebben we eindelijk de organisatie gevonden die onze expeditie zal organiseren. Africa Travel Resource is een ervaren organisatie, gebaseerd in Engeland, die een nauwe band onderhoudt met Africa Walking Company, een Kilimanjaro-specialist in Tanzania.

We gaan met ATR in zee omwille van diverse redenen:
- het zijn Kilimanjaro experten die de strengste veiligheidsnormen hanteren
- ze hebben een hoog slaagpercentage op hun klimmen
- ze gebruiken de Rongai-route, een kwaliteitsvolle, weinig gebruikte route met goede kansen op succes
- ze steunen ons goede doel

News from Amani

Aujourd’hui, nous avons reçu le message suivant de la part de Joe, notre contact chez Amani Kids:

Vandaag hebben we het volgende bericht ontvangen van Joe, onze contactpersoon bij Amani Kids:

 
Hi Bart,

I just wanted to let you know that the generator has arrived in Moshi! I
just received an email from Clive, our contact at Power Providers, with
detailed instructions for building a shelter for the generator. We’ve
decided it will go near our water tower in the back yard. I gave the
plans for the shelter to our accountant, who will be arranging for
carpenters to begin construction on the shelter this week. As soon as we
have a spot for the generator – protected from the weather and from
thieves – then we’ll receive the generator.

Things are going well here otherwise. The short rainy season began this
week, which means we’ll have plenty of muddy footprints throughout Amani
for the next several weeks!
